FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM

Upon graduation from the Meridian-Nampa Joint Academy, new officers will be assigned to the Field Training Program. All entry-level officers will spend a minimum of 14-weeks in the Field Training Program, whereas the amount of time a lateral officer will spend in the Field Training Program is dependent upon their previous training and experience. During the Field Training Program, officers will gain hands-on experience under the guidance of a Field Training Officer.

After successfully completing the Field Training Program, Police Officers will be assigned to the Patrol Division.  Meet the Field Training Program Coordinators.

"I wanted to be involved in the FTO program since very early in my career. I believe it is the greatest way to shape young officers careers and to help maintain our department's culture."

“What drew me to the field training program was the ability to make a significant impact on new Officers, not only in the quality of their training and experiences, but also in shaping our agency through instilling our culture and values. To see Officers you have trained move on and become successful in their careers is one of the more rewarding experiences I’ve had. When given the opportunity to return to the program as a supervisor, the choice was simple and I thoroughly enjoy continuing to work with the excellent group of Field Training Officers we have on staff.”
